Spring 2003 Focus Proposal Forms
   Deadline: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2002
  The General Education Committee urges all who teach undergraduates to consider offering their Spring 2003 class(es) with one or more of the Focus designations: Contemporary Ethical Issues; Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Issues; Oral Communication; and Writing Intensive.

Recruiting Subjects for Poi Study
  Does Eating Poi Make a Difference? The UHM Department of Human Nutrition, Food & Animal Sciences is recruiting subjects for a clinical study sponsored through the Clinical Research Center entitled, "The effect of poi on changing the microflora environment of the gastrointestinal tract." They are trying to determine if poi, a fermented food product, acts like yogurt in changing the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract.

UHM Tenure & Promotion Informational Meeting
  Wednesday, 9/4/02, Crawford 115, 2:30-4 p.m.
  This is the first of four informational meetings that will be held for Manoa faculty members who are interested in learning more about the particulars of the tenure and promotion process. Any member of Bargaining Unit 07 is eligible to attend these meetings. These sessions have been particularly useful for applicants at least one year before they apply, as well as for applicants who are applying now.

Recruit Federal Work Study Students
  If you're in need of a student employee, but lack the funds to hire one, the Federal Work Study (FWS) program may be the answer. Through FWS, employers pay only 25 percent of the student employee's wages.

Diversity and Equity Initiative Funding
  Proposals are now being accepted for projects that enhance diversity at the university. A diversity and equity initiative proposal must address one or more of these dimensions: age, class, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion and sexual orientation. Topics on international diversity must demonstrate a link to diversity issues in Hawai`i or the U.S. Guidlines and application available at www.hawaii.edu/diversity.
  Proposals must be submitted for projects requiring funding up to $5,000 by October 4, 2002. Mini grants for projects up to $1,000 will be accepted from October 4 until March 2003. Diversity and equity initiative proposals may be submitted by faculty, staff and student organizations sponsored by a university department. Project proposals that serve more than one campus or carried out systemwide are encouraged. FALL 2002 TUITION PAYMENT DEADLINE - SEPT 9
  Tuition and fees for students registering August 15 to September 9, 2002 must be paid in full by Monday, September 9, 2002, 4 p.m. If full payment is not made by this date, your registration will be canceled. Payment must be RECEIVED in the Cashier’s Office by 4 p.m., September 9. Payment can be made with credit card via phone (296-6723); web (www.pae.hawaii.edu); mailed to UH Cashier’s Office, 2600 Campus Rd,QLCSS 105, Honolulu, HI 96822-2205; or in person(QLCSS 105, 8:30 - 3:30).
  No campus mail. For students’ convenience, the Cashier’s Office will have extended window service hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the period August 26 - September 9, 2002. Students should allow a minimum of 5 days for mail delivery to meet the payment deadline. Students should use the Mail-In Payment Remittance Form in the Schedule of Classes to mail in their payment. Campus mail and drop off payments are not accepted. Credit cards accepted: MasterCard, VISA, JCB or Diners Club. Please refer to the Fall 2002 Schedule of Classes for detailed information. FALL 2002 FACULTY AND STAFF TUITION WAIVERS
  Eligible University of Hawaii employees (this does not apply to GAs) may enroll in credit courses in the University system and use a Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver to pay for a maximum of 6 credit hrs per semester.
  Employees should disregard the scheduled call-in registration time given by PA’E since Faculty/Staff Tuition Waivers are valid only for classes registered during the Late Period August 26 - September 9.
  Tuition and fees must be paid in full by Monday, September 9, 2002, 4:00
  Employees must first apply for admission (submit Common Application Form to the Admissions Office) by the appropriate deadline and be admitted before registering for classes.
  Faculty and staff who register before the late registration period will be assessed all applicable tuition and fees. No refunds will be made.
  Employees must register by PA’E (telephone or web). University employees may select the payment option (telephone version only) to use a Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver and pay any remaining fees via PA’E. Tuition and fees must be paid in full by Monday, September 9, 2002, 4:00 pm.
