Regents Consider System Reorganization, Biennial Budget

The Board of Regents will hold a special meeting on Thurs., Nov. 14, 10 a.m. in Campus Center 220 on the Manoa campus to discuss the 2003–05 biennium budget request and the proposed system administration reorganization. Time permitting, the board will begin review of campus strategic plans. Comment on the system reorganization proposal is invited. For more information, see the summary.


Windward CC Blesses New Campus Center

Windward CC held a "Day of Celebration" on Fri., Nov. 1 with the blessing of its new $13.8 million campus center, Hale ‘Akoakoa, and the investiture of Provost Angela Meixell. The long-awaited campus center features the college’s first full-service cafeteria, which is open to the public and staffed by culinary arts students from the Employment Training Center. The facility has student services offices, the WCC bookstore, a lounge and game room, community meeting rooms and student organizations offices. It features Hawai‘i Interactive Television System capability—students and community members can participate in courses and discussion via satellite. The celebration was part of Windward CC’s 30th anniversary.

UHM Celebrates Renovations to Hamilton Library

UH Manoa re-dedicated Hamilton Library on Wed., Nov. 6 in celebration of the impending completion of more than four years of construction and renovation. Construction of the library’s addition, a six-story, 81,625-square-foot structure known as Phase III, was completed in 2001, and renovations to the library’s original sections, known as Phase I and Phase II, are anticipated to be completed by the end of the month.

"Hamilton Library is the heart and soul of the UH Manoa campus. It symbolizes the university’s mission to enrich, expand and develop every student’s knowledge while still remaining true to the cultural, political and economic history that makes this state and this university unique among all others," said President Evan S. Dobelle.
Renovations made to the original portions of Hamilton Library include infrastructure and public area improvements: addition of space for public computers, new electronic classrooms, expanded microforms and current periodical reading rooms, new map collection room, expanded special collections reading room and more. 442nd Exhibit Featured at Hamilton Library

man looking at displayGo For Broke! 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an exhibit of materials including letters, documents, photographs, uniforms and more from the 442nd Veterans Club World War II Collection was part of the Hamilton Library re-dedication celebration on Wed., Nov. 6. On display in the Bridge Gallery on the first floor of Hamilton Library, the exhibit brought many veterans of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team to the event, including U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye. The display will be up until Thurs., Dec. 12.

"This is a special day for me and a special day for the men of the regiment," said Inouye. "It is wonderful to know that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have the opportunity to visit Hamilton Library and learn about those times."
