Investiture for Meixell
Bedecked
with lei and glowing from a day of celebration, Angela Meixell
was invested as provost of Windward CC Nov. 1 in the newly dedicated Hale Akoakoa
campus center. Meixell served as interim provost at the Kaneohe campus for
two years before being appointed provost in May.
"The most important things we invest you with are the intangiblestrust,
aloha," commented Ben Moffat, chair of the Windward CC Faculty Senate.
"Windward is an excellent
college and the prettiest campus of all. This is a time of wonderful growth
and change for us," Meixell responded. "This place has a phenomenal
faculty and staff who choose to be here. We have 14 active student clubs and
two honor societies." She gave credit to her mentors and colleagues over
the years and honored the alumni who attended he days events.
Meixell has 22 years of experience in the UH system. From 1997 to 2000, she
was state director of the Employment Training Center, now headquartered at the
Windward campus and resident caterers for delicious edibles served throughout
the day. She previously served as assistant dean and director of administrative
services at Kapi`olani CC and taught in both public and private schools. Meixell
earned both master's and doctoral degrees from the College of Education at the
Manoa campus.
Hawaii
CC Taps Faculty System-wide
for Visiting Professor Lecture Series
Hawaii CC has launched its Visiting Professor Lecture Series in Kona.
Tricia Allen, tattoo artist and a doctoral
candidate in anthropology at Manoa, will give "A Tattoo Tour of Eastern
Polynesia" on Nov. 18. Karim Khan,
Leeward CC assistant professor of history, will discuss "Practices and
Belief of Islam" on Dec. 5. Previous speakers include UH West Oahu's
Dan Boylan and Manoa's Min-Sun
Kim. The free talks are held at Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel beginning
at 7 p.m. They are co-sponsored by the Pacific Asian Affairs Council in partnership
with UH Community Colleges's International Affairs Outreach Program. For information,
