Karen
Kennedy Has Music Program Singing
Manoa's
Karen Kennedy was recently appointed director
of the Honolulu Symphony Chorus. The busy music professor leads the UH Manoa
Choirs and guest instrumentalists in a musical cycle through the calendar year,
beginning and ending with the Christmas season, during a free concert Dec. 7,
7:30 p.m. at Central Union Church. For

HIGP's Gruen Wins Kuiper Prize
Eberhard
Gruen, a faculty
member in UH Manoas Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology
recently received the 2002 Kuiper Prize at the Division for Planetary Sciences
meeting in Birmingham, Ala. The prize, which includes a cash award, is the highest
professional honor awarded by the division, which is the largest in the American
Astronomical Society. It recognizes outstanding contributors to planetary science
and for achievements that have helped advance the understanding of the solar
system.
Gruen is recognized for the discovery of interstellar grains passing through
the solar system, the discovery of Jupiter dust streams in interplanetary space,
and major insights into the science of micrometeorites in space through the
use of a variety of study techniques.

Hawaii school, public and academic libraries as the American Library Association
Councilor for the Hawaiian Library Association.

San Buenaventura, a former staff member in the UH Manoa School of Travel Industry
Management, passed away on Nov. 22. A memorial service will be held on Wed.,
