Clopton Award for Community Service
  The Robert W. Clopton Award recognizes outstanding service by a UH Manoa faculty member to the non-university community. Nomination is by petition and should be submitted with statements of support from at least three people. Appropriate documents supporting the nomination and detailing the candidate's community contributions should be submitted along with a curriculum vita.
  Nomination materials are avilable in college/school and department offices, or from the Office of Faculty Development and Academic Support, Kuykendall 107, or call 956-3279 or 956-8075. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 3, 2003.

Spring 2003 Tuition Payment Deadline - Jan 27
  Tuition and fees for students registering Jan. 7 to Jan. 27, 2003 must be paid in full by Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, 4 p.m. If full payment is not made by this date, your registration will be canceled. Payment must be RECEIVED in the Cashier’s Office by 4 p.m., January 27, 2003. Payment can be made with credit card via phone (296-6723); web (www.pae.hawaii.edu);mailed to UH Cashier's Office, 2600 Campus Rd,QLCSS 105, Honolulu, HI 96822-2205; or in person (QLCSS 105, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.).
  No campus mail. Students should allow a minimum of 5 days for mail delivery to meet the payment deadline. Students should use the Mail-In Payment Remittance Form in the Schedule of Classes to mail in their payment. Campus mail and drop off payments are not accepted. Credit cards accepted: MasterCard, VISA, JCB or Diners Club.

NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship
  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is accepting applications for its 2003 Coastal Management Fellowship. Any student who will complete a master’s, doctoral or professional degree program in natural resource management or environmental-related studies at an accredited U.S. university between January 1, 2002 and July 31, 2003 is eligible to apply. Application packages must be submitted to the UH Sea Grant College Program office by January 31, 2003.
  The Coastal Management Fellowship was established in 1996 to provide on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management and policy for postgraduate students and to provide project assistance to state coastal zone management programs. The program matches postgraduate students with state coastal zone programs to work on projects proposed by the state and selected by the fellowship sponsor, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center. This two-year opportunity offers a competitive salary, medical benefits, and travel and relocation expense reimbursement.

Mid-semester Course Evaluations
  Mid-semester feedback can pinpoint problems students might be experiencing or highlight instructional techniques students find helpful. It can be particularly helpful for: junior faculty or graduate teaching assistants new to college teaching; senior faculty reexamining/revitalizing teaching strategies; instructors teaching first- time or revised courses; faculty building a record of teaching development for promotion and tenure or contract renewal. Contact CTE for details on services.
  Services include: Small Group Instructional Diagnosis Availability: Feb 24-Mar 21 A CTE consultant visits class for 50-75 minutes to facilitate a discussion with students about course. The consultant meets with the instructor and passes on this information.
  Paper and Pencil Assessment: Availability: Feb 24-Mar 21 CTE provides master copy of comment form to be duplicated and distributed to class. Students anonymously answer questions. Instructor reviews forms and looks for key comments or student consensus. Session may be scheduled with CTE consultant to review and discuss results.
  Classroom Observation Availability: anytime during semester CTE consultant visits a class session to observe teaching process and conduct peer review. A follow-up session is scheduled to discuss the observations and recommendations.
  Videotape Assessment Availability: anytime during semester Camcorder available so that instructor can view and assess teaching. CTE consultation available.

Spring 2003 Faculty and Staff Tuition Waivers
  Eligible University of Hawaii employees (this does not apply to GAs) may enroll in credit courses in the University system and use a Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver to pay for a maximum of 6 credit hrs per semester.
  Employees should disregard the scheduled call-in registration time given by PA’E since Faculty/Staff Tuition Waivers are valid only for classes registered during the Late Registration Period January 13-27.
  Tuition and fees must be paid in full by Monday, January 27, 2003, 4:00 p.m.
  Employees must first apply for admission (submit a UH Admission Application Form to the Admissions Office) by the appropriate deadline and be admitted before registering for classes.
  Faculty and staff who register before the late registration period will be assessed all applicable tuition and fees. No refunds will be made.
  Employees must register by PA’E (telephone or web). University employees may select the payment option (telephone version only) to use a Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver and pay any remaining fees via PA’E.
  Tuition and fees must be paid in full by Monday, January 27, 2003, 4:00 p.m.
