UHM Excellence in Teaching Awards
For academic year 2003–04, the Board of Regents will present six awards to UH Manoa faculty and the chancellor will award additional citations in recognition of outstanding merit as teachers. The annual awards recognize the importance that students, faculty and administrators place on quality teaching on this campus.
Any full-time faculty member with instructional duties at the undergraduate and/or graduate level (except previous Board of Regents winners) with an established record of teaching for the last three years at UHM may be nominated. EWC or Research Institute joint appointees with at least 50 percent teaching loads during the previous three years are also eligible for the award. Meritorious teachers may be nominated by any student, faculty member, administrator or alumnus/a. Successful nominees will be recognized at the Awards Convocation in September 2004. Nomination forms are available in college/school and department offices, in Sinclair Library lobby, at ASUH and GSO offices or from the Office of Faculty Development and Academic Support, Kuykendall 107 at 956-8075 or 956-3279. Faculty Marshals for UHM Fall Commencement
Faculty marshals play an important role in having commencement ceremonies run smoothly and efficiently. For the mid-year commencement on Sun., Dec. 21, we will need two faculty marshals and two floor marshals for the combined baccalaureate and advanced degree program. Faculty marshals assist with the training of student marshals, lead the procession, and oversee the seating of the graduates. The floor marshals assist the faculty marshals and maintain order during the ceremony.
In appreciation of faculty participation, a monetary gift will be presented to the marshal's department to support a student scholarship. Faculty members who would like to contribute their time to Manoa's mid-year commencement are invited to contact Gerald Meredith, Office of Faculty Development and Academic Support, Kuykendall 107, 956-3279, or e-mail jerry@hawaii.edu by Nov. 1, 2003.
