College
of Education Grant Aids Children with Disabilities
The
UHM College of Education’s Center
on Disability Studies was awarded a $800,000 grant from the U.S. Office
of Special Education Programs to fund Project TACT—Teaching All Children
Together. Research has shown that children with disabilities in Hawai‘i
spend a smaller percentage of their school day in regular classrooms as compared
to those in any other state. Hoping to reverse this statistic, Project TACT
will train 75 pre-service and in-service personnel, who are at the post-bachelor
and master’s levels, on the processes of educating children with high
incidence disabilities using the general education curriculum in general education
classrooms. Read
