A Capitol Celebration
UH Day at the State Capitol showcased the system’s exceptional programs
and talents from all 10 campuses. The event, held on Thurs., Jan. 22, offered
legislators and the public an opportunity to meet UH faculty, staff and
students, and view a variety of displays and exhibits.
PBRC Director Finalists Visit Manoa
The candidates for the position of director of the Pacific Biomedical Research
Center will be holding public presentations at Manoa. Each session begins at
4:30 p.m. in Biomed B-103.
• Robert
S. Aronstam, director and senior scientist, Guthrie
Research Institute. Aronstam received his BA from Columbia College
of Columbia University and PhD from the University of Rochester
Center for Brain Research. His
presentation is on Thurs., Feb. 19.
• Brenda
Claiborne, professor of biology, University of Texas at
San Antonio. Claiborne received her BA from the University of California,
Berkeley, MS from the University of Oregon and PhD in biology from
the University of California, San Diego. Her
presentation is on Thurs., Feb. 12.
• Kelvin
Davies, James E. Birren Chair of Gerontology at the University
of Southern California. Davies received his BS and MS from the
University of Wisconsin and PhD from the University of California,
Berkeley. His presentation is on
Mon., Jan. 26.
• Michael
Johnson, associate director, Center for Structural Biology,
University of Illinois at Chicago. Johnson received his BS from
the University of Wyoming and MS and PhD from Northwestern University.
His presentation is on Mon., Feb. 9.

Search
for Business Dean Begins
The search for the new dean of the UHM College of Business Administration
is underway. Members of the search advisory committee have been
appointed and the
committee chair is Faye Kurren, president and CEO of Hawai‘i Dental Service.
The dean’s position is currently being advertised and initial screening
will begin Feb. 12.

"I am extremely pleased that joining the selection committee of distinguished
faculty is an impressive array of business leaders," said President Evan
Dobelle. "Their interest and commitment in helping to select a new dean
is indicative of the valuable role the College of Business plays in our state."
