Holoholo Memorial
Rededicated
A memorial for UH scientists Michael Allen, Robert
Harvey and Gary Niemeyer,
who were lost when the M/V Holoholo disappeared in December 1978, was
rededicated on Fri., Jan. 23. The scientists, along with seven others, left Snug
Harbor on Dec. 9 to conduct research and failed to rendezvous at Kawaihae Harbor
on Dec. 11.

Shortly after their disappearance the university community planted three gold
trees in their memory at HIG, however, the trees were damaged by construction
of the POST building. With funds from friends and colleagues and donated labor
by Manoa groundskeepers, a new garden was created in time to mark the 25th anniversary
of the tragedy.
