SARS UPDATE
(As of May 1, 2003)
Information for Faculty/Scholars
and Administrators
- University of Hawai‘i
faculty/scholars and administrators are NOT permitted to travel on
a UH-sponsored/affiliated program or to utilize UH funds (including
UH Foundation funds, federal or state funds) to any SARS-affected
areas,
if the location remains on any one of the following travel alerts:
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization
(WHO),
or the U.S. Department of State.
- Any University of Hawai‘i
employee or appointee (including faculty, scholars, staff, administrators,
adjuncts)
traveling to, or transiting through,
countries with reported probable cases of SARS (as identified by
the World Health Organization website updated daily found at: http://www.who.int/csr/sarscountry/en/,
must complete a Faculty/Scholar/Administrator Acknowledgement of
Risks
and
Release Form. The form must be filed with the University of Hawai‘i
Office of International Education prior to departure.
Information
for Students
- University
of Hawai‘i
students are NOT permitted to travel on a UH-sponsored/affiliated
program or to utilize UH
funds (including UH Foundation
funds, federal or state funds) to any SARS-affected areas,
if the location remains on any one of the following travel alerts:
Centers
for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), or the
U.S.
Department of State.
- Students
who choose to travel to a SARS-affected areas using personal funds
to attend non-UH sponsored
programs, conduct
research,
etc… and
who may wish to transfer credits back to UH to fulfill
any degree-requirements must complete the Student Acknowledgement
of Risks and Release
Form. This form is to be filed with the University of Hawai‘i
Office of International Education prior to departure.

Any University
of Hawai‘i student who chooses to travel
to, or transit through, countries with reported probable
cases of SARS (as identified by
the World Health Organization website updated daily
found at: http://www.who.int/csr/sarscountry/en/, must complete
a Student
Acknowledgement of Risks and Release Form. This form
is to be filed with the University of Hawai‘i
Office of International Education prior to departure.
Returning from International Travel
-
Returning
travelers from SARS-affected regions who are symptom-free
and have had no known contact with
a SARS patient should remain vigilant for
symptoms of fever,
cough, and muscle aches for at least 11 days following their
return. A traveler
with signs of respiratory
illness and/or
fever within this 11 day
window should immediately contact his/her physician.
- Anyone returning
from non-affected SARS regions appear to
be at no greater risk than
non-travelers at this time.
