Undergraduate Summer Research Award

Description
Established by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education, the Undergraduate Summer Research Award encourages and supports research by undergraduate students. For the purpose of this award, research is a broad category of academic endeavor that includes empirical investigation, scholarly study in the humanities and artistic performance, and creative activities.
Eligibility
- Full-time undergraduates in good academic standing who will not be graduating before spring of next year (i.e., freshmen, sophomores and juniors) are eligible to apply.
- Students who plan to receive academic credit for the summer research are not eligible for stipend support. They may apply for equipment and/or travel support, if such is required to complete the proposed project.
Terms of Award
- The typical amount of the award is around $3,000, which will provide a stipend and cover expenses related to research and travel, if such is required to complete the proposed project.
- The project must be completed within the summer for which funding is sought and before graduation.
- Award Recipients must agree to prepare a poster for presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Required Documents
Incorrectly prepared applications will be rejected.
- Undergraduate Summer Research Award Application Form (27.01 KB).
- A three-page proposal (including charts, photos and/or references) addressing the following:
- Objectives and significance of the project,
- Procedures and methodology to be employed,
- A brief bibliography indicating that literature relevant to the project (if any) has been reviewed.
- Brief resume.
- Summary of the applicant’s previous research experience in this area, if any.
- Letter of recommendation from a sponsoring faculty member.

Application Procedure
