Frequently Asked Questions

Who has to take the CIL Exam?

WCC students who wish to graduate from Windward CC with an Associate of Arts Degree. This requirement only applies to students who began studies or transfered to WCC in fall of 2003 or later, or who have returned to WCC since fall 2003 after a break.

When can I take the exam?

The CIL exam is generally given on the first and third Wednesday and Thursday of each month. During summer the testing center is open from 8 AM to 4 PM. Students need to sign up for their testing day and time at least three working days in advance. See the Schedule page for more details.

Can I just take a class instead of the CIL exam?

No. However, there are credit courses which may teach you the skills you need to pass the CIL exam [some are listed here]. In particular, students who wish to take a CIL course are encouraged to enroll in ICS 105 CIL Preparation. In this class, students will prepare for and take the CIL exam as part of the 3-credit hour course.

When should I take the CIL exam?

You are strongly advised to complete the CIL exam no later than the semester before you intend to graduate. This will allow the you time enough to gain the skills you need if you should fail one or more of the exam's components. You will need to successfully complete the CIL exam by the last testing date of the semester in which you graduate.

Do I have to take the whole exam all at once?

No. There are four components to the exam, and you may take as few as one component at a time, and as many as all four at a time.

To see what the exam is like, can I take the CIL exam?

No. There are Sample Exams on this website that you can use to see "what the exam is like."

What if I fail a component of the exam?

You will need to retake the component that you failed. You'll be able to retake an exam as soon as the next month's testing period.

Where is the new location for the CIL Workshops?

For fall 2007 the CIL Workshops moved from No‘eau 123 to Kuhina 112.
