Exam Skills Lists, Samples, and Rubrics

Use the links below to view a list of skills and a sample for each component of the CIL exam. Each sample is very similar to what you'll encounter while taking the actual exam. By reviewing the skills lists, working through the samples, and reviewing the rubrics, you'll prepare yourself for taking the corresponding component of the exam by:

  • learning what to expect on the exam
  • learning what skills you'll need to successfully complete the exam
  • understanding the rubrics so you'll know exactly how the exam is graded

1. File Management (Mac OS9 or OSX, PC Win XP) and Word Processing (MS Word)

A very close approximation of what you'll see during the actual exam. If you can correctly work through all the tasks outlined in this excercise in 2 hours or less, you are well prepared to pass this component of the CIL exam.

Rubric
Detailed grading criteria. You'll need a score of 70 points out of 100 (70%, or a "C") to pass this component of the CIL exam.

2. Email Communication (University of Hawaii WebMail or MyUH Email)
