What is Wi-Fi Day?
Wi-Fi is short for Wireless Fidelity and used to describe the wireless Internet access that is growing in popularity in many public meeting spaces such as coffee houses and airports. Using 802.11b technology, Wi-Fi at UH lets you connect your laptop or other mobile computing device to UH and the Internet without the restrictions of wires, cables or fixed connections.
Please join us on Apr. 1st at the mini fair on the Campus Center mall to learn how Wi-Fi works. Or bring your laptop to help inaugurate the new Wi-Fi service at Campus Center. Staff from Information Technology Services and computer vendors will be on hand to answer your question and help get you Wi-Fi ready!
Activities will include:
- a mini-help desk to help setup your computer for Wi-Fi access
- discussion on Information Security and Wireless "in"security
- demonstrations of different kinds of Wi-Fi access devices
- UH Bookstore wireless products
- Dell Computer products and giveaways
- Apple Computer products and giveaways
- CompUSA "show special" product sale and giveaways
- Wi-Fi campus maps and connection instructions
- free popcorn and drinks
- drawing for prizes such as Wi-Fi cards and Sodexho gift certificates (must be present to win)
Wi-Fi at Campus Center has been installed with the generous support from the Pepsi Bottling Group.
Wi-Fi Day is being sponsored by UH Information Technology Services, Pepsi Bottling Group, UH Bookstore, Campus Center Board, Dell Computers, Apple Computers, CompUSA.
