Research Interests:

My research is a comparative study of sound production behavior and functional morphology in butterflyfishes (Perciformes: Chaetodontidae). I am examining the social context of sound production behavior in socially monogamous and non-monogamous butterflyfishes. I am using a functional morphology approach to examine kinematic differences between species. Ultimately I am interested in the degree of coevolution between sound production and hearing and lateral line specializations in these fishes. I am a student in the Tricas lab at HIMB.

I am interested in behavior and sensory biology, ecology, and evolution in teleost fishes. Prior to coming to UH I studied the ecomorphology of intertidal fish assemblages in central California and central Chile for my M.S. with Prof. Michael Horn at Cal State Fullerton.
