The late Harris Okuda was a groundskeeper with Student Housing Services at UH Manoa. He was posthumously recognized with the 2004 President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance.

Okuda is remembered for being a skilled, effective, supportive and caring employee of the university. His approachable and friendly manner made it easy for residents and fellow employees to seek him out. On a number of occasions, colleagues observed him cheerfully taking time out of his busy schedule to address a concern or question.

A colleague comments, "Okuda never forgot that students were his customers. He not only believed and talked about this truth, but modeled it in his daily job."

The President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance honors UH employees who exhibit dedication and sustained superior performance in a maintenance, landscaping, custodial, shop or trucking position.
