Linda Nishigaya
UH-West O‘ahu

A professor of sociology at UH West O‘ahu, Linda Nishigaya uses her sociological insights and social research skills to benefit the university and the community.

In the classroom, she provides opportunities for her students to exceed as future sociologists by developing and implementing innovative courses into her curriculum.

Nishigaya generously gives her time to organizations like Upward Bound, National Guard Youth Challenge, Institute for Human Services, Hansen’s Disease Settlement at Kalaupapa on Moloka‘i, Hospice of Hawai‘i and many more. The Catholic Church community in the Makiki area has also benefited from her expertise in program planning.

The Hung Wo and Elizabeth Lau Ching Foundation Award has honored faculty members for significant contributions that strengthen ties between the University of Hawai’i and the community.
