Bio

Wayne Buente is a Professor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, School of Communications. He is the Graduate Chair of the School of Communications Master’s program in Communication.  Wayne also serves as an Investigator with the Pacific Island Partnership for Cancer Health Equity (PIPCHE).  He earned his Ph.D. in Information Science from Indiana University Bloomington and a MS in Information from the University of Michigan.  His research examines the interplay between society and information and communication technologies (ICTs) and its impact on health disparities.  His recent work examined the depiction of betel nut use on the social media platform Instagram and how the homeless on O‘ahu utilize Facebook for social connection.
