February 24, 5:00pm - 6:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Sinclair Library Viewing Room #4 Add to Calendar

Join the East Asian Film Society in February as we explore the films of North Korea. The films screened are from VHS tapes bought from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Pyongyang and give a rare view into North Korean politics and society.

Marathon Runner is based on the true story of DPRK athlete Jong Song Ok. After failing to win a medal at the 1998 Atlanta Olympics, she decides to work harder in order to compete at the world championship marathon in Seville, Spain. Realizing that her training regime parallels the fate of her Nation, still struggling to recover from famine and other crises in the the 1990s, she devotes everything to preparing for the competition in order to bring glory to her Nation.
