Imagine setting a maiden voyage down the flowing lava rivers of the Big Island of Hawaii on a boat made of lava! Artist Michael Hengler, will exhibit just that: an 11’ lava-canoe in a gallery space that is literally transformed into a lava-scape that crunches beneath your footprints as you traverse the darkened room in which actual footage of lava-boats rolling over the molten lava flows of Hawaii are projected.
Dimly illuminated from the red glow of the lava fields, upon this bed of basalt, is your 11’ lava-vessel, awaiting your voyage into a world that would seem unbelievable, if you were not there experiencing it yourself.
"Hengler himself considers this exhibition’s realization “an experience so surreal that seeing voyaging lava-boats on molten lava flows, somehow melts away preconceptions of human limitations and re-envisions what might be possible for us as we navigate our rivers of life.â€
