"Movingly Meditative"

--New York Times

This husband-and-wife artistic team presents an exciting combination of Indian sitar and European cello, accompanied by the dazzling traditional tabla drummer, Harshad Kanetkar.

Pandit Rao is one of Ravi Shankar's most accomplished disciples. He and cello virtuoso Saskia Rao-de Haas (originally of The Netherlands) prove that the music of East and West no longer just meet but are ready for an abiding relationship with their ground breaking project, "East marries West." This East-West Center performing arts project will bring the impressive virtuosity of Indian classical music to Hawaii's audiences, both adults and youth.

The ensemble's (seemingly) effortless musical communication and improvisation has captivated audiences at concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the National Arts festival in South Africa, Musee Guimet in Paris, the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, the Esplanade in Singapore, Legends of India in New Delhi. These are a few highlights of their remarkable musical journey.
