Historical Highlights of Hemp Fiber Use

Prof Mark Merlin (UHM Botany) will discuss the long history of true hemp use in Eurasia. The long and varied use of plant stalk fiber extracted from Cannabis has historic importance in this and other world regions; in fact, Cannabis ranks as among the world's most important multipurpose resources, purposes which include ones connected to health, politics and war. This talk is based on Dr Merlin's recent publication, Cannabis: Evolution and Ethnobotany, published with Robert C. Clarke in 2013
