Philosophy Colloquium Presents: Dr. Kenneth Kipnis "Authority of the Ethicist"

November 14, 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Sakamaki C-308 Add to Calendar

“Just who do you think you are?” Christine Korsgaard KENNETH KIPNIS has spent much of his professional career beyond the walls of Academe. He has worked for law firms, professional associations, government agencies, hospitals, medical and nursing schools, etc., commonly assisting with the understanding and management of ethical problems. Against that background he has reflected on and written about the emerging role of the “ethicist”. Professor Kipnis will draw upon an unpublished work-in-progress: the last chapter of a book entitled Expeditions in Ethics. The article recounts a court case in which he played a significant role and it considers the epistemic foundations for the role of “expert ethics witness”.
