Helen of Troy, a lecture by Dr. John McDonald
October 23, 1:30am - 2:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Henke 200
Dr. John McDonald, University of Hawaii
King Priam in Homer’s Iliad, asks Helen of Troy to identify the Greek heroes. This literary motif is also found in the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata.
This lecture looks at another parallel, a medieval Irish text in which an abducted woman named Blathnat is similarly asked by her captor to identify the men who have come to her rescue.
