In the last half century, South Korea has transformed from a poor agricultural country to an industrialized and globalized society.

Hagen Koo, professor of sociology at UH Manoa, has been studying and writing about the remarkable changes of this period. Now, on his retirement, he reflects on his past research and the sociological trends that have influenced his work.
