Dance Media Now Community Dialogue Webinar

April 26, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Online Add to Calendar

Choreographers, performers, performance artists, and companies are increasingly creating dance works that incorporate sophisticated video and technology. The UHM Dance program has been instrumental in creating a vision for digital futures in performance through undergraduate and graduate degree course offerings, research, and productions. Many UHM Dance alumni and guest artists have been inspired to explore this new medium. Local dancers and performance artists have also been actively experimenting with creating their own dance media with video projection design in live performance, incorporating interactive software, and making screen dances in their artistic creations. More recently COVID19 has caused a fast paced development and a pivot toward emerging dance practices online and creation for new digital platforms. The Dance Media Now Community Dialogue Project will feature a panel conversation with artists in Hawaii who have been incorporating video in their dance performances and creations over the past decade. April 26 Panel 1: Kumu Vicky Holt Takamine, Kent Shinomae, Camille Monson, Sami L.A. Akuna, and Larry Asakawa. May 3 Panel 2: Kumu Michael Lanakila Casupang, Peter Rockford Espiritu, Cheryl Flaherty, Angela Sebastian. Moderator: Kara Jhalak Miller
