ORE Seminar: Eigen-Function Matching Method for Wave Interactions
May 4, 3:30pm - 4:30pmMānoa Campus, Holmes Hall 247 & Zoom (see description for meeting ID and passcode)
Regions with high-energy wave environments, such as the Hawaiian Islands, can experience wave-induced erosion that impacts coastal infrastructure. Structures such as pile breakwaters and other slotted/perforated structures have been proposed to dissipate the wave energy. The thickness of these structures is very small compared with the wavelength so they can be regarded as thin-walled structures. In this talk, I will present some preliminary results obtained using an Eigen-function matching method to study two classical problems related to such types of breakwaters: (i) wave scattering by a curtain-type breakwater, and (ii) wave scattering by a vertical slotted wave barrier. Potential applications of the method and codes developed for future work will be discussed. This seminar will be given by Ian Robertson, Environmental Data Analyst at the Applied Research Laboratory at UH. Zoom Meeting ID: 960 4654 5799, Passcode: OREseminar
