ORE Seminar: Finite Element Analysis in Ocean Engineering Applications
January 23, 1:00pm - 2:00pmMānoa Campus, POST 723

This talk presents the application of finite element methods (FEM) to a range of problems in ocean and coastal engineering, including offshore structures, breakwaters, hydroelastic systems, and fluid–structure interaction (FSI). The presentation will cover modeling strategies, element formulations, material and geometric nonlinearities, and coupling with fluid solvers. Several case studies will be discussed, such as wave–structure interaction, composite and layered marine structures, and FSI simulations using commercial and open-source tools. The goal is to demonstrate how FEM-based approaches can support safer, more efficient, and more sustainable ocean engineering designs. Speaker: Ozgur Demir; ORE Postdoctoral Fellow
