Ka`iulani de Silva will provide a background and cultural history of kapa, including kapa legends, the history of kapa in Hawai`i and the South Pacific, and the process of making kapa. Kapa tools, techniques, dyes, printing and scenting will be outlined. Using tradional Hawaiian tools and stamps, students will design and create their own piece of kapa in this hands-on session. Class size limited. Registration required. Class fee $20.
