Is the person next to you really seeing what you yourself are seeing?
Kumi Nakajima moved to the U.S. fifteen years ago. Being a foreigner for more than a decade made her wonder how humankind perceives social spaces, particularly the different interpretations of personal and public spaces.
"Encounters," an MFA thesis exhibition by Kumi Nakajima, is an initial step toward moving in the direction of understanding the concepts of tradition, modernity, and encounters through an installation inspired by Zen and Chado (Japanese Way of Tea). The viewers will be challenged to question their own perspectives in understanding inter-spatiality and communication.
