Speaker: Dr. Scott MacLeod

About the Speaker:
Dr. Scott MacLeod has 20 years of experience connecting emerging global trends with organizational goals and leadership development in Asia. He has worked with and advised Fortune 500 firms, SMEs, governments and NGOs across the region in understanding the implications of shifts in strategic contexts. His work is about making the awareness of large scale trends actionable for organizations and their leaders.

For seven years, he was Director of Canada’s award-winning Asia-Pacific Management Cooperative Program and then went on to found the McRae Institute for International Management, with activities in 19 countries in Asia and Latin America. The Institute worked with more than 100 organizations to improve operational outcomes in rapidly changing emerging markets.

Since 2004, he has been based at the East-West Center. He currently directs the Center’s Asia Pacific Leadership Program, teaching its ‘Core Issues’ content and developing new programs dealing with emerging regional trends.

His most recent field work has focused on the global economic flows of goods, people, money and information and how these flows affect and reflect specific markets or locales. This work is culminating in the publication of the Geographies of Global Markets due out in the summer of 2012 by Oxford University Press.

His work on the patterns of global flows, economic unevenness and system instability has led him to his four most current areas of investigation and teaching: futures scenario construction, risk analysis and decision making, social network analysis, and the development of new metrics for gauging total organizational success – all within an Asia-Pacific frame.
