Dance and Digital Media in Performance Art with Kara Miller

August 23, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Krauss Hall 12

For the past 40 years, artists have been experimenting with the interaction and transmission of dancing bodies on screen, performers in projection design in live performance, and more recently through movement improvisation sessions in live telematic internet broadcast and virtual exchange.

This talk looks at the work of artists who have experimented with screendance and live interactivity in performance art, and explores concepts of embodiment/disembodiment in the performance of dancing digital bodies.

Kara Miller is an assistant professor of Dance at UH Manoa. As a scholar, choreographer, and dance filmmaker she has collaborated with artists around the world creating screen dance and performance art installations. Kara is a graduate of The Juilliard School and has worked professionally in television and film.
