HYDRUS groundwater modeling workshop
April 9, 8:00am - 5:00pmMānoa Campus, Watershed Hydrology Laboratory at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources
The University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa’s Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) is hosting a three-day training workshop (April 8, 9 & 10) on advanced modeling for water flow and contaminant transport in soils and groundwater using the HYDRUS software packages.
HYDRUS is currently used for wide variety of industrial, agricultural, and environmental applications worldwide.
The HYDRUS workshop includes a detailed discussion of water flow and solute transport processes in the vadose zone, followed by an overview of techniques for solving the governing flow and transport equations. During hands-on computer training sessions, participants will use the Windows-based HYDRUS-1D (open source) and HYDRUS (2D/3D) software packages, including additional modules such as ROSETTA, HP1, UNSATCHEM, and the Wetlands Module. The workshop will emphasize preparation of input data for a variety of one- and multi-dimensional applications.
Selected advanced HYDRUS topics covered in this workshop include:
- Coupled movement of water, vapor, and energy (including the surface energy balance)
- Preferential/nonequilibrium water flow and solute transport (using dual-porosity and dual-permeability models)
- Biogeochemical transport
- Modeling flow and transport in 3D
The workshop instructor is Dr. Jirka Šimůnek, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of California, Riverside.
Cost for the 3-day workshop:
Graduate students: $295
Faculty and post doctoral researchers: $395
Non-university (general public): $495
