Indigo Blues Workshop

October 26, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Mānoa Campus, 3860 Manoa Rd.

Indigo is the universal hue of handwoven, hand-dyed and restitched fabrics.

From desert Tuareg tribes to the 14th generation of Kyoto dyers, to the manufacturers of denim jeans, indigo rules! Learn how indigo permanently dyes fabrics in this two-session class. Use resist methods of tie dye binding and clamping objects to create patterns.

Control hue intensity with multiple submersion. Historical, cultural and botanical aspects will be covered and indigo textiles will be examined. Detailed supply list and bibliography will be sent prior to the first class. Instructor: Ann Asakura, indigo dyer for 30 years. In partnership with TEMARI, Center for Asian and Pacific Arts.
