Waiwai: reconnecting to abundance

March 14, 2:30pm - 4:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Saunders 624

Anarchist Pathways to Healing Futures: Join practitioners Puni Jackson and Kat Burke from Ho‘oulu ‘Āina, a 100 acre ‘āina-based health program & nature preserve at Kōkua Kalihi Valley (KKV), to discuss the potentials for anarchist pathways to healing futures through Waiwai, a value and initiative that builds wholeness through abundant‐minded action. Drawing on the etymological roots of "health" as "wholeness", KKV has long seen health as much more than visiting the doctor or taking proper medication. Since 1972, community voices have led KKV in building unique spaces that challenge – if not completely disregard – colonial and hegemonic developments in the health‐care industry. Puni Jackson and Kat Burke share the genealogy of Ho'oulu 'Āina, where practitioners re‐story the separation between ‘āina and po‘e (people) with mo‘olelo of Ho‘oulu ‘Āina and the stories of connection and transformation that have birthed the Waiwai project.
