Lauhala Plaiting, Make a Bracelet Class

Kumu Wes Sen will demonstrate and teach the fine art of Hawaiian lauhala weaving. Selection of leaves, collection practices, preparation of leaves, dying, and finally plaiting and weaving will be taught to participants.  A beautiful woven lauhala bracelet will be the final product for each participant.  Additional prepared material kits will be available for purchase on the day of the class for $6 per kit. Kumu Wes was a student of Bea Krauss and among one of the early practitioners of traditional fiber arts during the Hawaiian Renaissance. He continues to practice lomilomi and teaches fiber arts at Halau Ku Mana Charter School and Aulani Resort. $10 per person fee includes one bracelet kit. This class is designed for adults and children ages 9 and up.
