“Take the energy of Lauryn Hill, the consciousness of India.Arie and the mystique of Erykah Badu and you got Dobet Ganhoré."" --St Louis American
Dobet Gnahoré, Grammy-winning songstress from the Ivory Coast, will grace the Orvis Auditorium stage for just one night on February 24th. Widely considered one of contemporary African music’s most exciting talents, Gnahoré has astounded audiences with her thrilling stage presence, appealing melodies and powerful singing.
Recently nominated for “Best Traditional Female Artist of Africa†by the KORA All Africa Music Awards, Gnahoré sings in seven African languages as well as French and English and she is backed by a Pan-African band. ""Defiantly diverse, musically and linguistically,"" Gnahoré’s songs move from delicate ballads to upbeat African grooves (BBC).
With upbeat choreography and lyrics that address a wide range of social issues from AIDS to gender equality, Gnahoré “makes everything move†(Chicago Tribune). In 2010 she shared an award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance with India.Arie at the 52nd Grammy® Awards and has released several albums, including her latest Na Drê in 2014."
