"Testimonies, Truth Claims, and the Future"

September 26, 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Sakamaki Hall A201

Prof Ellen G. Friedman, visiting from the College of New Jersey, will talk about and discuss "Testimonies, Truth Claims, and the Future," as our first History Forum of the Fall 2018 term. She will address questions such as "Are Holocaust survivor video testimonies closer to the truth than Holocaust memoirs, documentaries or fiction? What factors affected the version of the truth with which we are presented? How do we preserve Holocaust memories without betraying the people whose memories they are?" Dr. Friedman is a Professor of English at the College of New Jersey, where she is also on the faculty of the Womens Studies and Genocide and Holocaust Studies programs. She is most recently the author of "The Seven," a study of Polish Jewish families who experienced World War Two and the Shoah in 'the East' of the former USSR.
