"Genocide, Nationalism and Forgetting"

Prof Thomas Laqueur, History Department, U C Berkeley, will explore modern and contemporary questions of genocide, nationalism and forgetting by studying the history of the Jewish Cemetery in Thessaloniki, Greece. Starting before the Great War and continuing through last year, that history includes the cemetery's destruction. Prof. Laqueur will consider the meanings of that desecration in light of Greek, European and Jewish histories and narratives. The talk is free and open to the public.
