The Power of Remainder: Politics & Poetics of Healing in Myanmar

September 15, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Crawford 115

Buddhist communities living in the geo-politically marginal state of Rakhine deal with their health vulnerabilities by relying on a diverse medical repertoire. The Anthropology Department at UH Mānoa invites guest speaker Dr. Céline Corderey to its first Colloquium of the Fall semester, where she will be introducing the concept of 'remainder', arguing that dealing with health and illness is dealing with remainders of different natures - karmic, mathematical, biological, geo-political - which at the same time are structuring and enabling possibilities.
