ORE Seminar: Science Communication - Demonstration from ORE Graduate Students

April 17, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Bilger Hall 150

This seminar provides a platform for students to share their work or interests, and to further hone their science and engineering communication skills. ORE graduate students will give “lightning talk” presentations on technical topics with various audiences in mind. The students attended a workshop, hosted by SOEST Communications and Outreach Specialist Marcie Grabowski, on effective science and engineering communication. In this session, they learned how to communicate with broad audiences about a specialized project or field of study. They were guided through the process of considering the perspective and priorities of a target audience, which is key to successful communication. After learning various tools and guidelines meant to help distill complex or technical information into a succinct and impactful message, the students are now putting those lessons to work.
