March 12, 5:00pm - 7:00pmMānoa Campus, Institute for Astronomy
3I/ATLAS is only the third known object from interstellar space to pass through our solar system. Learn what this comet's visit last fall can tell us about our solar system and what lies beyond.
Presenter Willem Hoogendam is a fourth-year National Science Foundation Fellow pursuing a PhD in Astronomy at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa's Institute for Astronomy.
His research centers on transient astronomy, with a focus on supernovae, tidal disruption events, and, most recently, interstellar objects.
His work has been published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Astrophysical Journal, and the Astronomical Journal.
Free and open to the public. Register at https://go.hawaii.edu/Dwi to attend via Zoom or to receive the link to the recorded session once it is posted.
