7.   Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The presentations done by each student, the videos shown by the instructor and the following discussions, also the lectures with the accompanying handouts with PowerPoint.
The topic of the course is very relevant and interesting
The varied discussions on the books, lectures and videos as well as off hand media. It's a very good stepping stone to Eocn 460 while encourages the students to think critically and in a different non-mechanical matter.
The thing I liked the most was how he showed the negative side effects of globalization. I had no idea how bad the conditions are in some of these poor countries. I also liked his choice in media clips that he would show throughout the semester.
Real-world examples
the way he taught the class and the information i gained
The assignments were relevant and enjoyable
Case studies because we saw the application of theories and models. Ethical portion provides a good contrast to the intensiveness of ECON 460. Power points help keep students engaged.
the powerpoint slides
I think all the powerpoint, handouts, and teaching material were extremely valuable and I believe I'll be using it for future courses. The teacher was great in elaborating all topics and I look forward to taking his class again if I could.
The ability to be creative and apply trade theory to topics of our own interest. (For presentations) Relating Trade theory to world issues today.
Application of approaches to ethics to different trade policies.
I loved the presentations from the class and thought that there was a lot of freedom to discuss whatever topics we felt were valuable. I love the flexibility of the class. Also, I really enjoyed the videos that we watched. I feel like videos make the material easy to understand and they allowed me to understand the magnitude of the trade policies that we were discussing.
class discussions and presentation
Suggested readings and assignments
There were a lot of material covered at a very good pace and a lot of opportunities for questioning.
videos readings presentations
I enjoyed the trade policy side of the course although I wish we went into more depth on this topic. I also enjoyed the integration of all the books with the lecture and how closely it followed along in what we were learning. Definitely made writing easier.

powerpoint blanks some readings
The presentations made by the students could have been more "strict." The overall topic was appointed, yet students were a bit "lax" in choosing their own topics. In other words, the students' topic could have been a little more related to what the professor set.

14.   Other comments:
Great instructor, helped to engage the class in discussions and encouraged and fostered critical thinking skills.
I would suggest if this class has group discussion besides presentation
I think all four books should be kept in. However, maybe break up the assignments into smaller more frequent ones by breaking it up into smaller reading sections. While I feel it's good experience to feel overwhelmed by a lot of reading material, because the questions are often intended to be open ended, it'd be easier to gradually build up the discussions and types of answers a student can produce. For instance, perhaps break up the readings into halves or so, so there'd be 8 or 12 assignments. While some topics may be incomplete because of this, questions could be catered to molding a type of thinking to incorporate the future possibilities the next readings could bring. Incorporating real life examples into each assignment can help as well-- this can help double check if the student is on the right track or is able to apply the material to current events. Thank you for the wonderful semester!
I like Baybars, he is very personable and easy to approach.
Books need to be discussed more in-depth. Great books, but we spent so little time on them.
Dr. Karacaovalli integrates relevant examples from outside the field (tv, movies, etc) to help cement concepts and break up the monotony of straight lecturing... He is always available for additional support and is clearly highly knowledgeable about his specialty... Does an excellent job of relating complex concepts and models and making them more accessible...
Internet is bad sometimes, downloading to a hard drive in advance may be more reliable. Some of the longer readings, although not technical, were easy to get lost in because of the length.
I would love to take any course by Karacavalli again if I could and would highly recommend him to any other student
An understanding and patient instructor and acknowleges the fact that not everyone is an economics major. Encourages growth and accepts diversity from students.

professor K is my favorite teacher he's the best :)
Definitely one of the better, if not best, Economics professor at UHM.
I absolutely loved this course! I am definitely going to recommend this course to other peers whom are economic majors or for those interested in globalization and trade policy.
