7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable? |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
His lecture is so knowledgeable and helpful for me to understand concepts.
learning about international economies and how the trade.
Studying international trade models.
Professor Karacaovali's explanations of difficult concepts in a way that made
it easy for me to understand was very valuable. He knew how to break down
the concepts.
Also, Professor Karacaovali is very encouraging to his students and
personable. He was always available to help.
Looking at real world situations
Powerpoints used interactively (filling in certain words on slides)and
problem sets helped to aid learning.
homeworks and quizes
Learning about the different policy's of trade and whether it makes countries
better or worse off.
everything
His lecture is easy to understand.
Problem sets and review them very well after graded
The comparisons between trade barriers, tariffs, and subsidies. Of course, all other aspects are and
have to be presented before these topics in order to understand the diagnostics thereof, therefore
making everything exceptionally valuable.
Welfare concepts.
The detailed explanations and real life examples given to help us to better understand the
concepts presented.
Everything done in the course was valuable.
Lecture notes provided good information.
The handouts were good. It was good that he prints them out for everyone and has you attend class to fill in the blanks regarding what he is lecturing.
It was a very consistent pace and there were incentives for a student to
master the subjects and go above and beyond.
Reviews of the problem sets were the most important aspect in learning the material for me. I also liked the handouts instead of textbook approach.
I think the printed lecture notes were really well done. The fact that you
still had to go to class to get them, but it wasn't so much where the student
is overwhelmed, is something I haven't experienced in a class before this.
He really encourage students to study and archive their Academic goal through
this class
Lecture methods which included follow-along handouts with key terms left blank. I found this really
helped me to stay involved with the lecture and to add extra notes. Helped me to master the
material.

8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable? |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Nothing.

More opportunities for extra credit since there are only 2 exams.
none
A little bit of the history, but history is always good to know and I'm
biased since I don't like history.
notes were hard
His pronunciation is hard to listen a little bit.
N/A
Nothing really. Everything was presented appropriately and in accordance to the topic and course.
It seems like this was a very dilute version of the course. A bit of calculus could have been used to
consider more interesting trade cases. All the graphs were linear and perhaps not very realistic.
None
The two-three week long review session at the beginning of the class.
Nothing was unliked. Everything was interesting and taught me something.
N/A
The attendance sheet. At the beginning of the semester it was made clear that attendance wasn't apart of the grade. However, almost daily he would pass around an attendance sheet. It has nothing to do with the class but just very cryptic regarding grades.
None.
The movie Battle in Seattle and the mockumentary about disappearing Mexicans were not really valuable. While they were a good break from continuous lectures, I think news clips of the situations might have been better.
n/a
Nothing in particular - a couple instances of un-organization but that was about it (quite minor).
The homeworks.
N/A
i think that they where all valuable

I like his class and I want to take his other class again.

The course was simply too simple and slow-paced for a 400 level class. I would have liked the class much better if the the lectures had been less redundant and if we had spent less time on simple concepts like consumer/producer surplus.
professor k is my favorite teacher
he's the best :)
I would not hesitate to take another class from him again.
he is very clear
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEACHING!
I've learned about trade and welfare very well from handouts and problem sets.
I am willing to take more Econ classes from Mr. Karacaovali!
Best Econ instructor ever!!
Amazing individual and thorough with his teachings. Very generous, and very knowledgeable.
Would recommend to take him!
Excellent teacher, but as stated earlier, the review session at the beginning of the semester should be scaled back a little. At the end of the semester we dropped a section, that could have replaced some of the classes of review.
Was a great professor and was very effective at teaching his students and
instructing them.
Dr. Karacaovalli integrates relevant examples from outside the field (tv, movies, etc) to help cement concepts and break up the monotony of straight lecturing... He is always available for additional support and is clearly highly knowledgeable about his specialty... Does an excellent job of relating complex concepts and models and making them more accessible...
Great professor.
Would take another class.
Early in the semester we took too long to get through the review material, and it crunched the amount of time we had for the more interesting and challenging content.
I enjoyed this class. I think that the quizzes and homeworks were graded fairly. The only thing I would make more clear is the policy on attendance and how that affects your grade.
I felt the course was slightly watered down. While I didn't fully ace the
first midterm and with the final pending, it's hard for me to say much, but I
felt that it could have been much more in-depth. Given the typical
department's student, I suppose its OK, but perhaps have optional more
difficult problems (original or from the book) available. Other than that,
it was a very great class and I learned a lot. Thank you for the great
semester!
Good professor who knows his material and who knows when students might need a break from lecture.
I would love to take more classes from Professor Karacaovali!
Great, fair class. I would definitely take another class with Professor Karacaovali.
Sincerely, Troy Thompson
