8.   Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Going over the problem sets in class and using them for studying for the quiz(s).
I liked the handouts, they were super helpful
the new skills i learned
Graphs Problem Sets Sample midterm and exams
The detailed explanations of how things work and why we are using certain tets versus others.
understanding what statistics is and the importance of it
I really appreciated the solving of problems on the screen so we could visually and mentally follow how to work problems out.
Homework, iclicker, and lectures
Certain lessons.
statistics
Problem set explanations
Content
Hypothesis testing because it will be useful for lab and in the future!
I feel that all aspects of this course contributed equally. Still, I particularly enjoyed the computer assignments since we were given "raw" data, ran our own tests, and came up with statistical conclusions (and implications) - such experience will be invaluable in the future when interpreting our own research data in our given fields.
I think that he was very approachable and easy to learn from. He made the topic fun with interesting examples and it was good that participation was required. But I think that he should have more frequent shorter assignments rather than once every week or two having a large assignment and that way we can stay tuned into what we are talking about becasue it is very easy to forget.
It is well organized.
I liked how the assignment were posted online
The handouts, formula sheets, and computer assignments were helpful.
everything from the homework, lectures, computer assignments were well planned out. looked forward to going to lectures, very fun class.
The homework and lecture handouts.
The professor was very well organized. The most organized professor I have ever had.
The applications of mathematics in economics and in real world situations.
Learning the math and theory behind statistical tests was very valuable.
I like having homework and participation/attendance points available to help cushion the overall course grade.
Going over the different theories of statistics.
The problem sets and quizzes helped me gain comprehension of the material and helped me prepare for the tests.
I enjoyed the handouts to follow the teachers teachings.
He provides lot of material and assignments that make sure we get a grasp on the subject matter. Also, lots of opportunities to help our grade.
I really thought learning probablity was very helpful
It was really helpful be able to go in for help and to have practice exam questions for the midterm and final.
all
everything
Probability
I really liked how Professor Karacaovali spent a good amount of time on each concept introduced to the class. He taught us at a good rate that made it simpler for us to follow along and understand the concepts.
Homework assignments
I love Professor Karacaovali's accent. Very soothing.
Understanding that statistics you see in the media don't always accurately depict the feelings of the public.
I noticed that a lot of the things I learned related to scholarly biology journals.
I think a lot of the problem sets were helpful especially for someone who is going into a science career. I thought the hypothesis testing and probability topics were most valuable. I also thought that the computer assignments were helpful in connecting these topics to doing something that I would probably use in the future.
learning how to use excel was valuable
The problem sets are pretty useful because it let me understand the topic by doing this and at least I get some practices.
probability of actions
Applying what was learned in class to homework assignments, quizzes, and exams.
Dr. Baybars is very understanding and accommodating. He makes sure that his students learn the material and teaches the material at a manageable pace. His homework is designed to strengthen the student's understanding of the material. The midterm was challenging but not too difficult. Overall an excellent class. I learned a lot.
That the information can be used in real life
Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals
The professor gives many chances to earn points towards grade. Was also understanding that not all students learn at the same pace and from time to time asked if we needed any clarification.
The handouts
we are able to take the knowledge learned from this course and apply it to real life statistics
The homework assignments with the solutions were the most valuable to my understanding of the course
The notes and the handouts provided by professor karacaovali really helped me understand what we were learning.
the handouts and the equation sheet for the test
The problem sets and examples done in class. This helped a lot with understanding the material.
I appreciated the availability of solutions for review.
He never rushes the class. Even though there are almost 100 students, he seems to try to check every student understand and catch the class well. That is very impressive and I think it helps at least me a lot.
First half of semester on basic stats
doing quizes, homework and computer assignments.
I think that the in-class lectures were most vital in my learning, especially the in class examples with the i-Clickers.
Hypothesis testing and probability
His notes and lectures are very informative and clear.
His examples were of situations i could see using in the future.
The handouts helped me follow along with his lectures
The computer assignments were a great idea but we could have done more to learn about statistics through excel and other programs.
The problem sets were very helpful in understanding concepts covered in lecture.
Good teaching skills and friendly
Professor Baybars is a wonderful professor! He is always willing to help and ensures that the students understand the content thoroughly. He always offers help and advises us to come in during office hours if we need extra assistance.
Professor Baybars is a great professor and knows what he is talking about. He is willing to help when he is available.

9.   Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The midterm format. I would have preferred a handout and answer sheet, possibly multiple choice rather than drawing tables and graphs in a book, which was very time consuming.
The computer assignments
none
Computer assignments iClicker questions Quizzes
The painstaking detail to every question. Grante, some may not understand, but we are in college and if they need additional help, they need to seek that out rather than slow the entire class. The I-clicker use, while it sounds like a good idea, does not work well. It seems to waste more time than necessary. Good PPT slides, but running back and forth through them to point out a particular number, just disrupts the flow of the class.
Things that I could grasp.
Computer exercises
Teaching methodology
The first 6 lectures because in college we should not have to go over how to find the mean median and range. You learn that stuff in middle school maybe even elementary school!!!!!
N/A
The harsh penalties for missing a class.
I thought everything went fine. Everything was important.
The iclicker questions we a distraction at times from the flow of the course.
nothing, everything was valuable and fun at the same time.
Professor sometimes didn't know what he was talking about as he would have long pauses and say he'd get back to it later. Lectures weren't thoroughly taught.
N/A
The beginning part of the course was a little too easy and it did not seem necessary to spend so much time on it.
I had a hard time with the structure of the handouts. I like the idea of it; however, the structure and content on them made it a little hard to study - especially if I missed a day.

Everything taught in the class is valuable!
I didn't like the computer assignments, because i had a hard time doing them with my Mac. Also, none of those aspects were on the exams and i had a difficult time understanding what the point of all of it was.

Some of the concepts of confidence intervals were hard to understand.
I don't think there was anything least valuable.
I thought all aspects of the class were valuable.
I guess maybe the computer assignments because we just have to follow the instruction and get the answer. Although it is a easy homework, I do not get anything from doing it.

Computer assignments
some of the material was vague and rushed, as the professor thought each student was knowledgable prior to the lecture. when some of the students in the class was seeing the material for the first time.
tghe computer assignments because when all the steps are continuously given to you it does not give the student an incentive to study/memorize how to perform these operations. It would have been better if the statistics were just already given to us and we have to answer the questions.
n/a
the quizzes
There was no aspects of this course that wasn't valuable.
Computer Assignments
Not really.
None
I did not learn that much from the computer assignments. The assignments were essentially how well I could follow instructions.
Computer assignments; while the assignments were relatively simple, they did not deepen my understanding of the statistical concepts covered in class.
All was valuable.
Some of the advanced parts of the class i could not see how i could use in the future. He would fulfill the teaching of how to do a problem but fail to provide good real life examples which help me with understanding.
The computer assignments
NA overall was a very good course
Even though Baybars thoroughly knows every subject we learned in class, I feel as though he went through each subject way too fast, I couldn't keep up with everything going on. But if you set up an appointment with him, he is much more thorough and is excellent at explaining the subject one on one.

Great class I had a very smooth experience
Take charge of your class. You are the professor in this class, demand the respect that you are due. If you wish to take attendance, take if first thing and do not allow people to just come and go as they please. Also, the mandatory attendance is a bit silly. Again, this is college and if the students WANT to be there, they will be there.
I think the instructor should change his teaching methods to better explain things to people who are not strong in math. I actually took a 300 level business stats class and understood it very well, well enough to earn a B and be confident in stats. This class, I feel very confused with the materials being presented and I took a stats class already.
I like the use of the iClicker, and I highly appreciate that the textbook is not required.
The TA was never around during class time. She returned graded papers and left. I couldn't even tell you what her name is.
Thank You!
I think the attendance policy is absolutely ridiculous! If we are able to understand the material and get it without coming to class we should not get minus points from out overall grade for not being there. We are college students in an upper level course if you cannot be responsible for yourself by now you have some learning to do. I feel like Im in high school all over again. I earned my way to college and I expect to be treated like an adult. The fact that you are forcing us to come to class is ridiculous and honestly a waste of my time. I think if you are going to make attendance points you should just make it however many classes you made out of how many classes total. So if I miss 5 of the 42 classes all semester I would get a 88% for attendance instead of a zero. I went to 88 percent of the classes I think that's worth some credit. Missing 6 classes and getting -1 percent on your grade is dumb. Overall your class is a lecture and you should treat it like it is! You're a college teacher, you shouldn't have to treat us like were 15. I seriously think you need to reconsider attendance policies and maybe even make attendance and participation one category worth 10 percent of your grade and you get points for everyday that you participate in 75% of the questions. That is much more reasonable. The class goes at such a slow pace and 50% of it we should already know! Other than that I think the problem sets and computer assignments are very helpful for reinforcing the concepts!
Great class overall.
Professor Karacaovali is a great teacher, wish my other econ teachers were like him.
Very good intro course. Great professor and knows the course material very well. The large class size made the material hard to focus on and lacked participation. Overall, a good course, but could have used more statistics or maybe a group activity to get hands on experience of a study.
it was a great class to take. really enjoyed it.
I love the formula sheets on the exam and quizzes. Really great way to test material, not just looking for memorization, but rather understanding.
I really liked the professor and TA. They made themselves very approachable and helped with any questions I had on the course. Lectures were structured nicely so I never was bored; I liked having problems after concepts to help understand how to do the work.
Keep it up! Doing great! Teaching method is fantastic
Overall great teacher!! Course was very challenging and stressful but the teacher made taking the class worth it.
professor k. was an amazing instructor. his slides were the best i have seen, you can tell he spent a considerable amount of time on them but was well worth the effort. it makes paying attention much easier to a dry subject like statistics. he was very humorous which also helped a lot. The homework assignments were very well done, he was able to use real world examples making learning even easier when its relate-able to life so you dont get the feeling "when am i ever going to use this." his use of tech with the i clicker and solving problems right in front of us over the computer was awesome too. and his accent is bad ass.
I recommend this teacher to my friends
Professor Baybars and Quixa (sorry if I spelt your name wrong) made a great team! I really enjoyed the class, and I wouldn't mind just sitting in the class next semester. Great class, my favorite this semester! :D
Great teacher that uses real life, interesting examples in homework and lectures.
It's obvious that Professor Karacaovali knows the material and is very knowledgeable but he doesn't teach well. The class is very dull and although it started off fairly easy it became difficult and was hard to understand because it moved at a fast pace. I also know a lot of my classmates found the material difficult to understand but because a select few have aced the midterm, it was assumed it must not be his teaching but our learning that was the problem.
great professor who knows his material but goes fast.
it would have been helpful if the professor posted the slides online after each class, or used a book.
one of the best professors Ive every had give this guy a raise
Great course overall taught by a great professor. I believe this class could have been made a little more difficult but Professor Karacaovali made every class session count. Maybe he could add more topics into the curriculum as he stated before that this course was a condensed version of a two semester course. I really enjoyed this class and I believe Professor Karacaovali should continue to teach this course.
Such a great class! It took a reasonably boring subject and made it interesting. It helped deepen my understanding of statistics and I think it has provided me with a good foundation for my future in Economics.
Dr. K and Huixia are very nice and were approachable when I had questions

TA was okay
I hope he teaches other classes too. I try to register his other class next semester, but only thing he will teach is for honored students. He is so great.
good grading system. maybe be more communicative :)

Professor was always fair and effective in his grading and ways of teaching.
Good teacher overall considering how the material in Econ 321 can get a bit dry. I would take another Econ class with him if i have the opportunity to do so.
The pace of the class was a bit too slow and caused some students to lose interest of subject matter.
TA was barely present.
