practice exams
All of the subjects covered
When Professor Baybars would work out
all of the lecture's examples on the slides
themselves, it really gave me a better idea
of what I should be doing, where I am at in
my understanding of the topic, etc. It was
the most valuable thing.
All of it is valuable.
An overall jist of the satistics world.
the professor was very helpful and
accessible. He was very clear about the
information when teaching a subject.
The practice problems and sample exams
n/a
Easy to take notes in his class.
I liked the real life applications used in
class and "the joy of statistics" video gave
my mind a nice chance to recharge and
rest for a minute. The homeworks were
very helpful as a study tool as well as the
notes.
online homework and iclicker questions,
and videos!!
When the professor(s) mentioned
what will be important to know and
what we didn't really need to know
for the exams.
A lot of the material apply to every
day life such as probability and
different kinds of studies. As a
science major this information
deeply helps me with experiments.
I enjoyed learning about probability
the practice exams
The frequent tests helped me stay on top of
my studies. I much rather have more tests
than only one midterm and final
Sample Exams.
Powerpoint examples, iClicker
The consistency and format of all the lectures,
handouts, and all other assignments made it
extremely easy to naivagte through all the
material learned.
Handouts were extremely helpful,
especially when studying material.
Practice problems were helpful also, and
the formula sheets during the exams.
Professor is smooth, helpful and very
intelegent. he knows what he is doing
Probability and finding sample sizes. FInding
the standard deviations
Practice problem sets with full solutions
available.
the professor went step by step with
practice problems that people found to be
difficult and did a good ratio with lecture
and practice problems.
The excel computer assignments and
getting participation points through I
clicker
His course materials were very organized.
The sample exam helped a little.
The amount of resources available.
I liked that this class focused on the
basics/ understanding the concepts of
statistics rather than going straight into it.
I think the daily I licker questions were really
useful in getting students to participate in
such a large class.
The lectures, handouts and ppt are the most valuable resources in this class. It helps me understand and follow along with the teacher. It helps me not to be lost in class, especially since I don't have a book.
the subject is very relevant in my major
He went over most of the examples in class. He really went over all of the different problems that we would face and the different possibilities. He didnʻt just go over one problem with us and expect us to understand the theory and the formula.
The overall simple concepts which
made it easy to understand the
material.
sampling methods
The class is really straight forward.
Everything! Really appreciated how organized this class was, and how resourceful Prof. Karakaovali is.
All the concepts on everything Baybars
taught us. I learned a lot.
The fill in the blank prepared slides
Having multiple resources to study for the tests: problem sets, notes, and previous exams/practice exams.
I learned that statistics can be used
in everyday life.
Gaining more understanding on the
concept of statistics, and how it can be
applied to other aspects of everyday
life/other subjects/future career.
Lectures
For me understanding how samples can
be skewed with numbers is important.
Creating graphs that are bias is also
helpful
I think going through the process
that surveys and other statistics are
done is really eye opening. I'm
more aware now, when given
surveys or when reading data.
Statistical tests that can potentially be used in the biological sciences are very helpful to have in this course.
Being able to apply the material we
learned in class to real life, such as
probabilities and error.
the extra credit
The aspects that would help me write
biology lab reports.
Everything was very new to me. I believe
understanding the mean and standard
deviation will help you get through the class
The professor! He is very smart but
sounds condescending so he is
approachable if you need extra
help. He understands that the
subject matter is abstract and takes
his time explaining in the simplest
way possible. He encourages
participation even in such a large
class and shares insight on real
world application.
The interaction with the use of
charts, formulas and concepts
greatly enhanced the lessons.
All of material that was provided to learn and study from i.e. handouts, study guides, computer assignments, etc. The interactivity with the i>clicker was also beneficial.
The PowerPoint slides
Problem sets and practice exams helped a lot
Statistic & probability
Learning about stats
Learning how to analyze statistics.
We learned about probability which was
always a tough thing to comprehend
The practice exams were very useful. I feel that they were good representations of what were on the exams. Also, the detailed solutions provided was helpful.
Extra Credit and Participation
Points. Easing into harder topics.
I found the applications of statistics to real
life examples valuable
Very interesting content
extra credit
Practical topics
Professor Karacaovali's interpretation of
difficult concepts, which he explained in
his own words. If he had just recited what
was on the screen, I would not have
understood. Also, the computer
assignments (extra-credit opportunities)
are extremely valuable.
Knowledge of the confidence intervals.
He went very throughly over all of the
topics
-- I found it very helpful that professor Karacaovali would write on the slides along with his explanations of the topics.
-- I also really liked the iclicker in class exercises, they helped me gage whether I was really following what Professor Karacaovali was saying. It helped to immediately see what areas I wasnâ??t grasping (but had thought I was).
-- Especially the practice tests and exams on Laulima. Invaluable!
Instructor cared about the students
understanding the concepts rather then
memorizing formulas
lecture slides
All the topics covered.
Learning to manipulate real world data into useful statistics.
the assignments and exams really
demonstrated what students knew
:)
Leaning how STATS can be applied to
other aspects in our careers (like through
our word problem examples)
Everything was worth knowing
Well organized and multiple
resources
Numerous examples worked out in class
was really helpful. Handouts used to go
over the lectures were also helpful. The
lecture slides posted on Laulima was a
good resource to use for studying and
review. The other resources on Laulima
were also very useful.
The iClicker helped a ton!
The set up the class was very organized
Lecture
Handouts made following the content
easier. Many resources available to us
through Laulima! I-clickers made it
possible to put our knowledge to the test.
Confidence intervals seemed like
something that is relevant to everyday life.
example problems
all good.
Being able to calculate my grades based
off of weighted values! I also enjoyed
learning the formulas for variances.
I really appreciated the videos that
Baybars used throughout the
semester. Early on the semester, it
really helped give me the perspective
that stats was different than any other
math class. I was able to see that stats
had a real purpose in the world,
something that I was not able to see in
any other math class that I've taken. I
wish I was able to keep up more
because stats really seems like an
interesting subject.
I also appreciated the way that
Baybars gave us handouts of notes to
write down on. They really did help me
out stay on track and not trail behind.
Clear instructions and examples
The detailed explanations in the lecture for
each lesson
The practice sets allowed us to
make errors before the exam and
was great practice. The computer
assignments helped me improve
my excel skills, something I know I
can apply in the future.
I like the excessive amounts of practice given
to us to strengthen our idea of the topic.
The amount of resources we had access
to (i.e. practice problem sets, practice
midterms), iClicker questions and review
of problems in class, formula sheets on
exams
The relationship with Econ to life.
Study guides
Everything
Problems sets and practice exams
Spreading the knowledge that we didn't
know before. Pretty much every lecture
were valuable for me.
Nil
Professor was very helpful, tough class!
Having the practice exams and problem sets available to us. This greatly helped me when I was reviewing the material outside of class. I probably would have failed without it!
The course itself is very valuable. Stats is
practical to my major, which is economics. I
find that I will use a lot of knowledge from this
class in my future classes.
Examples of the usage of statistics outside of the class.
THIS TEACHER IS STRAIGHT FIRE!!
SUCH A GOOD TEACHER! VERY
KNOWLEDGEABLE AND
RESPECTFUL. GIVE THIS MAN A
RAISE.............................

No complaints
none.
none
The slides got boring at times, but i'm glad
that Professor include some videos as
well.
homework assignments via laulima
n/a
Iclicker questions for participation and not
grades. It doesn't make you pay attention as
much.
None
I did not like when we went over sample
exams or sample problems sets in class..
very boring and hard to focus
they were all important
I could see myself needing to know
all of this material.
the powerpoint slides
I felt all parts of the course we're fair and
useful
Handouts.
Spending too long on an example
I think all aspects of the course were
valuable.
Iclicker questions were not as helpful,
although if used for attendance, I
understand.
everything was valuable
We should be able to drop the final because
it's basically just a 5th midterm.
it would be just some parts of the course
material it self.
N/A
Quiz and exam cover too many materials
that we did not go over in the class. They
were all too challenging.
Sometimes professor doesn't explain
concepts clearly.
Sometimes the topics would end early,
and we would move on to the next topic
but the quizzes weren't due till the next
week. It's can get confusing at times,
especially as the topics change focus on
certain things.
I would have to say that the computer
problems were least valuable since we don't
learn much from this besides how to follow
very clear directions
I think everything in this class is valuable, but maybe the computer assignments is the least one. It doesn't really help us for understanding the subject, but it does help us understand how to apply the lessons through the technology and help boost up our grades.
need more student interaction
actually, none
Nothing.
Nothing.
None
n/a
None. All the material we learned in
class was valuable.
Usage of specific formulas that were not
important/unrelated to the subject.
Problem sets
Least valuable for me is probably the
term use of z scores i dont see myself
using them in future.
The length of the class was long so
when review came along, it was
hard to sit through homework.
None
None, it was all useful I was just not very
good at it.
Nothing
The large class size. This was my
first time taking a class with more
than 30 students so it seemed a bit
impersonal. Also, I feel that a
subject this complex could benefit
from smaller classes so we could
ask more questions and engage in
discussion.
Overall the biggest challenge was
the large class size and limited use
of TAs and limited office hours.
Everything was valuable
Less wordy handouts. Make us fill out more
NOTHING
Learning how to find out the z-value
for data.
Nothing
Going over problems too quickly.
None.
only powerpoint presentation
nothing
The detailed-oriented and jargon
Class seemed like a waste of time because
the entire lecture was read from the
PowerPoint/notes. Why make class
mandatory?
iClicker questions.
Word-based problems.
Maybe spent too much time on easy
things. Like simple math
None actually. I found this class to be interesting and challenging, and nothing seemed superfluous.
The way the lectures were conducted
made attendance a waste of time most
times. A bit too slow and repeatative
the number of students are so large
IDK
Karacaovali explained concepts in
a way that was unnecessarily
lengthy and confusing. He needs to
work on being concise and straight
to the point.
Everything was cool.
Some parts of lecture weren't really
necessary to help us understand key
concepts
Everything was useful
Didn't really push me to get a good
understanding, course was too
easy
I'd say some of the videos but
really it helped put a practical
purpose to the concepts in the end.
iClicker
None that I can think of.
Not too sure.
skipping steps
All good.
There's nothing that was invaluable.
N/A
The exams were reasonable but a
bit tough compared to the practice
exams and examples on the
lectures.
The large class size lead me to get lost and
not able to ask the question if I didn't
understand something which is very important
to me seeing as everything connects so if you
don't understand one thing you will make the
rest of the course extremely hard on you
Equations

the subject, overall.

None.
Having to print out our own handouts, but
other than that, he's a fucking good
professor.

Great Professor and TA! Well Done.
n/a
There a moments that I get lost because of the jumping from one slide to another and back. Over-all it is a great class with a well informed and great teacher!
Great class.
Overall a good class. I am not good at
math based classes like this so I was
pleasantly surprised to understand most
of it.
It's hard to teach this class, but I really
liked the videos and the fairness of the
course.
Thanks for a good semester.
great prof, great class. challenging but fair
One of the top things I liked about this
specific class was the fact that the
professor didn't just teach us statistics. He
taught us real world skills we can use in
the actual job force. He taught us how to
use excel and even though it may not
seem as a big deal, it is to me, so I thank
him for that.
This course is very challenging.
I gained a lot of knowledge in this class. It was easy to learn things because Mr. Baybars teach in a way that reach all of the students learning ability to understand and adapt concepts.
I had minimal contact with TA because I
never sought him for help.
Thank you professor.
This course was perfect. The
instructor always made time for
students and really cared about us.
I wish there were more professors
like Prof. Baybars.
The instructor was good, but the TA was
not good.
no
Loved this class! Instructor was very
honest and reasonable. Would
recommend anyone wanting to learn
statistics for this class! Loved the
instructor..wish he would teach my
finance courses!
Good class
I would recommend students to
take professor Karacaovali because
he is always willing to help students
if they do not understand
something.

nice
This course was effective in
preparing me for use in social
sciences research. I was intrigued
by the overall knowledge of the
instructor with his ability to convey
concepts that were still a bit above
my level.
thank you

Very good, very fair instructor.
Overall great class; learned a lot!
None.
Good class
I thought it was really cool that professor Karacaovali had a guest economist speak to the class about the many practical and integral aspects of their work throughout varying fields.
I also liked the occasional videos professor Karacaovali showed in class. They reminded me of the real world applications of statistics and how fun and interesting they can be.
:)
The Instructor and TA were really great.
Always willing to help and very
understanding of student's needs. They
did a good job.
Excellent professor if you need a statistics
course! Highly recommend him if you
need a statistics course. Work hard!
None
some concepts were hard to comprehend the way they were explained
All good.
I haven't had any experience with Bahram
this semester, hence my N/A answers.
Thank you for the semester. Saw your
picture in the first floor of Kuykendall.
Congratulations for your award!
Karacaovali is doing a great job.
I like the way Prof. Karacaovalii teaches his class. The notes are very useful and should be used school wide.
Thank you
great professor!
Great class, great teacher/TA, videos were informative and interesting, did a great job making a complicated subject as painless as possible. Thanks for a great class!
