CIS 720 Seminar – Painting Myanmar’s Transition: Digital Technologies and Social Justice

Please join us at the CIS 720 seminar from 4:30-5:30pm on Monday, 9/27, as we welcome Prof. Prasanna Karhade (ITM), who will be presenting his research on “Painting Myanmar’s Transition: Digital Technologies and Social Justice”.

Abstract:

Myanmar is located at the new crossroads of Asia – where China meets India. In the last decade, Myanmar has witnessed extensive changes and transformations. This exploratory study aims to understand the interconnections between history, geography, culture, the zeitgeist and behaviors in modern Myanmar. We adopt a creative and critical arts-based research methodology which analyzes eighty artworks across four generations of Myanmar artists. Interviews with these artists also provide unique data which helps us understand the transformation in Myanmar during the past decade. Preliminary findings point to the need for an inside-out model of digitally enabled capacity building approach to transformation.
Very early days in this new research program of mine. Hope that is okay.
