2017 Calls for Papers in Three International Conferences, Philippines & Indonesia

Three international conferences in the Philippines and Indonesia have announced a CALL FOR PAPERS:

Philippine Sociological Conference
Conference Theme: The Sociology of Justice
5 October 2017 | Pre-conference tour
6-7 October 2017 | University of the Philippines Cebu

The Philippine Sociological Society’s Annual conference invites paper presentations on all topics related to sociological research. The conference is open to academics, practitioners, and graduate students. Exceptional undergraduate students may also submit an abstract.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Sociology of Justice.’ The idea of justice has been at the heart of sociological investigation since the discipline’s inception. From Marx’s conceptualization of fair distribution of the proceeds of labor to contemporary research that examines the structural biases in the criminal justice system, sociologists have been at the forefront of interrogating the social currents that underpin the delivery as well as miscarriage of justice.

Philippine Anthropological Conference (UGAT)
39th Annual Conference
UGNAYANG PANG-AGHAMTAO, INC. (UGAT)/Anthropological Association of the Philippines

9-11 November, 2017
Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City

Participants to the 39th UGAT Annual Conference are invited to consider ‘rights’ as a lens by which to weigh the realities of people’s daily lives against what they believe they are entitled to in their lives, in terms of goods or benefits, services or resources, or respect and human dignity. Implicit in this approach is the assumption that there is a difference between what is and what ought to be; a difference that demands analysis in terms of context and causation, and understanding in terms of appreciation of peoples’ perceptions of their situation and their agentive responses thereto. This project is timely, given the new, sometimes unsettling times and spaces people now occupy.

5th Literary Studies Conference
12-13 October, 2017, Universitas Sanata Dharma Yogyakarta

TEXTUAL MOBILITIES: Diaspora, Migration, Transnationalism and Multiculturalism
The conference, ”Textual Mobilities,” invites papers that focus on the representations of the experience of diaspora, migration, transnationalism and multiculturalism in today’s globalization. Cultural forms like literature, film, theatre, media and other contemporary forms have tried to map the experience in all its varieties, dimensions and complexities. In literature, “textual mobilities” of Ramayana and Mahabharata epics and their surrogations across Southeast Asia is a case in point. Current critical theories, especially postcolonial theories, have translated textual mobilities into diverse enticing trajectories worth investigating.
