Wesleyan University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor of the Practice of Hindi-Urdu beginning July 1, 2019. Wesleyan is a liberal arts university with nine specialists in South Asia (see https://www.wesleyan.edu/southasiastudies/ ); this position marks an expansion into the formal instruction of South Asian languages, and we are looking for candidates with enthusiasm and creativity in developing undergraduate curricula to support the continued growth of South Asian Studies. This is a full-time, 3-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Responsibilities will include teaching five courses per year and other duties associated with the language program. At least four of those courses will be language courses while there is considerable flexibility with the fifth course, which could provide opportunities to teach Hindi-Urdu literature, translation, or other courses in South Asian Studies.
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in Hindi-Urdu language or literature or a related field and at least one year of demonstrated success in the teaching of Hindi and/or Urdu as non-native language(s) at various levels.
