Korean Flagship students won in Hawaii's 19th Annual Essay and Speech Contest, winning round-trip airplane tickets to Korea and prize money. Kamilah Dreux, a Korean Flagship BA major won the grand prize in the Storytelling Division, speaking about “My Dream, the Korean Language”. Yini Lin, Soo Min Kim, and Lacey Bonner — all Korean Flagship majors — won the first, second, and the third places respectively. In the Essay Division, Karren Gonong, also a Korean Flagship major, received the first place. Julia Kim, who is taking a Korean course at UHM, came in second. Nicole Bradshaw, a Korean Flagship student received the third place award. The Contest was held on October 6, 2018 at the UH Center for Korean Studies. Professor Han-byul Chung, Dr. Sumi Chang, and Dr. Hye Seung Lee served as judges from EALL. The event was hosted by the Korea Times Hawaii/Radio Seoul, UH Center for Korean Studies, and the Korean American Foundation Hawaii. Photos of the events can be found here and also here.
